Child Safety
Children's safety is our first design constraint. Every architectural decision starts with the question: how does this protect children?
Children's safety is our first design constraint, not a feature we added later. Every architectural decision we make starts with the question: how does this protect children? We built three independent safety layers so that no single point of failure can compromise a child's safety.
Triple-layer content safety
Three independent systems work together to ensure all content is safe for children:
Safe Kids AI
A dedicated content analysis layer scans all input and output for toxicity, adult content, violence, and other harmful material. This layer runs before any content reaches a child's screen.
CSAM and grooming detection
Specialized detection systems monitor for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and grooming behavior patterns. Any detected material is immediately blocked and reported to the relevant authorities.
Child-specific AI framework
Our AI systems use a child-specific framework that constrains all generated content to age-appropriate language, topics, and complexity levels. The AI cannot produce content outside these guardrails.
Image safety pipeline
Every image uploaded to Cognistase passes through a six-stage safety pipeline: format validation, metadata stripping (removing GPS coordinates and device information), content analysis for inappropriate material, hash matching against known CSAM databases, storage with access controls, and audit logging. Images that fail any stage are quarantined and reviewed.
Full parental controls
Parents decide which features their child can use, which data is shared, and with whom. Every sharing action requires explicit parental approval. There are no defaults that expose your child.
- Per-module consent: enable or disable each feature independently
- Activity logs: see exactly what your child did and when
- Alert system: receive notifications when specific events occur
Age-appropriate design
The interface adapts to the child's developmental level. No unnecessary complexity, no distracting elements, no dark patterns. The Focus-Flow Garden is built on growth-based motivation, not dopamine loops. We follow the Age Appropriate Design Code principles.
No direct communication
Children cannot directly communicate with other users. All peer matching interactions go through parental approval. There is no chat, no messaging, no way for strangers to contact your child.
When safety triggers fire
When our safety systems detect a potential issue, the response is immediate and automatic: the content is blocked, the event is logged, parents are notified (where appropriate), and the incident is reviewed by our safety team. We err on the side of caution, false positives are preferable to missed threats.
Reporting mechanisms
Parents can report concerns directly through the platform. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours. For urgent safety concerns involving a child at risk, contact safety@cognistase.com. We cooperate with law enforcement when required by law.
